Heishi Beads

Our Heishi Beads are perfect to make your own jewelry .Heishe or Heishi (pronounced "hee shee") are small discs or tubes shaped beads made of organic shells, Turquoise, or grounded and polished stones. Its comes from the Santo Domingo Pueblo Indians, New Mexico, before the use of metals in jewelry by their people. The name Heishe is the Pueblo Indian word for Shell Bead. Modern Heishi Beads are mostly mass produced mechanically; However, some artist still hand make these beads. The Heishi Beads are time consumingly hand-chipped, with holes drilled through their centers using pointed stones.
