This skilled artisan began drawing at the age of seven and has worked diligently to perfect his skills over the years. When creating his two dimensional art works, Nez uses a variety of media which includes ink, watercolors, graphite, and colored pencils. His asymmetrical compositions are developed through the use of intricate lines and the texture created by them. He draws upon his Navajo heritage and observations on the reservation for his intricate traditional designs.

Gretchen developed a great love, insight, and sensitivity for the people and culture of the White Mountain Apache. She is a founding member of the Whiteriver Artist Association where recently, Tribal Chairman, Ronnie Lupe, expressed his appreciation for her paintings, saying they were masterful, wonderful and show the beauty of his reality. She and her husband, Mel, now reside in Mesa, Arizona.
