It is said that the name "Azurite" came from the Persian word "lazhward" It is also said that is comes from the Arabic word azul, both of which mean blue. A unique form of Azurite is called "Bluebird", is dark red Cuprite mixed with Azurite. Azurite is mined in France, Australia, Mexico, Chile, Nambia, Morocco,Zaire and the Southwestern USA. Azurite is not widely known as a birthstone, but it may have been used as a birthstone for the sign of Taurus as several references suggest.
