Zuni Indian Inlaid Turquoise Coral Sterling Silver Sunface Bolo Tie.
This Bolo Tie is an impressive piece of Native American jewelry. This is Zuni Indian art at its finest! The Sunface design on this Bolo was made from impressive hand cut genuine gemstones such as: natural Sleeping Beauty Turquoise, Coral, Jet, Gold Lip, and Mother of Pearl. The Turquoise and other gemstones have been inlaid into shining channels of Sterling Silver. This Bolo Tie has been dressed with hand made flat beads of Sterling Silver. The Indian Jewelry artists of the Zuni Pueblo often use Turquoise and Coral in their work to bring honor to the Father Sky and Mother Earth. This bolo is 1-3/4" by 1-3/4". The bolo cord is 38" long. Signed in script by the Zuni artist Adrian Wallace.
The Zuni Indians learned to silversmith from the Navajo in the early 1870's. The Zuni, because they had permanent homes unlike the nomadic Navajo, were able to use many tools that the Navajo could not easily carry with them. With the lapidary wheels they began cutting stones and using the silver to hold their stones in patterns. Today, Zuni silversmiths are known for their lapidary skills. Both channel inlay (using precisely cut stones set on silver to form figures and designs) and cluster and needlepoint (setting small, similarly cut stones in geometric patterns) are traditional Zuni styles.
