Wholesale Lot of Six Vintage Indian Tray Baskets 0500-BSK
Wholesale Lot of Six Vintage Indian Tray Baskets.
Vintage tray baskets made from traditional Southwestern designs. This set of six hand woven plate baskets feature a variety of Apache Indian symbols and images. Coiled baskets are made like coiled pottery. Thin strips of fibers, wood, leaves or grass are wrapped into a bundle which is coiled around in a continuous spiral. Colored with natural dyes, they are a true gift of the Earth. These baskets average about 12"-14" in diameter with one basket measuring 10-1/2". We estimate they are over 35 years old. They have developed a unique vintage character with age and have a great rustic appeal with only the slightest wear and tear. They are not Indian made. Baskets of this quality made by an actual Apache, Navajo, or Pima would sell for thousands of dollars. Thankfully, we're able to provide the same style of basket at a mere fraction of the cost. You will be receiving the one-of-a-kind wholesale lot of six baskets pictured below.
Baskets were first made at least 9,000 years ago - long before pottery was invented. woven from a variety of plant materials by three basic techniques - plaiting, twining, and coiling - baskets had many uses. Flat trays were used for serving food and for winnowing seeds and parching them with hot coals. Deep baskets covered with resin were made to carry water. Some were woven very tightly for cooking with hot stones. Others were used for storage or carrying burdens. |
