This jewelry comes from an estate sale out of San Diego. The estate was owned by a trader who past away recently at the age of 96 years old. He bought, collected, wore, and traded Native American and Southwestern jewelry for many years. Richard was able to buy up his remaining collection. This amazing old pawn concho belt was part of that collection and was made about 50 years ago. This means it was made with high grade natural stones and traditional techniques.
Concho belts are one of the most striking articles of Indian Jewelry. Silver Concho belts connected only with silver links and no leather are one of the oldest types of Concho belts. Originally this design was worn from the hip down the side of the leg, not around the waist. They were worn as decorations during the dances and the silver conchos would jingle and bounce alongside the dancer. Later, a white trader converted the design into a belt which became very popular for its simplicity and adjustability.
We understand the true value and nature of hand crafted Indian art. And, we recognize it's important to know that the artist is truly a member of a Native American tribe. So, to ensure you that this is the real deal, a Certificate of Authenticity has been included with this item.
