This Traditional Navajo Cluster Sleeping Beauty Blue Genuine Turquoise Sterling Silver Concho Belt Jewelry is an impressive piece of hand made American Indian style jewelry. This fantastic concho belt was masterfully made out of Sterling Silver. It features traditional cluster designs made from hand cut Sleeping Beauty Blue cabochons of genuine Turquoise. Turquoise jewelry is highly fashionable for its natural colors. This concho belt features a buckle and eleven conchos of Sterling Silver. The sky blue color of the Turquoise combines nicely with the white shine of Sterling Silver. Non Indian made. The buckle is 2" by 2-3/4". Each of the eleven conchos are 1-7/8" in diameter. Concha belts are one of the most striking articles of Indian Jewelry. The medallions or plates of silver vary in number according to size. The older type had holes in the center, separated by a bar, through which was passed the strap forming the belt. The first belts were made only of concha's, with leather thongs used for fastening. Later a silver harness buckle was used, then slides of soft copper were used to attach and slide the concha's on belts and finally elaborate buckles replaced the leather thongs and simple buckles. The use of turquoise and other adornment on concha's date from the 1920's.
