Made from the Cholla Cactus, a cactus that's indigenous of the Southwest. And, it has some hand crafted vibrant and colorful yarn dressing for extra adornment. Each rain stick varies slightly. The group shot demonstrates the range of variety you can expect.
Rain sticks originate in South America, likely Chili or Peru. The traditional rainstick is made with cactus limbs, which are naturally hollow once dried. Cactus spines are then driven back into the cactus to form pegs. Beans, pebbles, sand, or seeds are sealed off inside the stick and create the sound of rain as they fall over the pegs when the rain stick is tilted back and forth. |
