Sterling Silver Turquoise Watch Zuni Inlay Horse Design Signed by Native American Artist.
This is a spectacular example of Zuni artistry. The artist used hand cut tiles of natural Mother of Pearl and Jet to create picturesque details of a horse head with inlay. The inlay is underlined with a brilliant sky blue nugget of genuine Turquoise. The Zuni artist was truly inspired combining high quality gemstones with impressive Silver work. The watch tips are each 1-1/8" wide and 1-1/2" long. Complementary watch face included. Signed by the artist Zuni I S. You'll receive one from the group pictured below.
The Zuni Indians learned to silversmith from the Navajo in the early 1870's. The Zuni, because they had permanent homes unlike the nomadic Navajo, were able to use many tools that the Navajo could not easily carry with them. With the lapidary wheels they began cutting stones and using the silver to hold their stones in patterns. Today, Zuni silversmiths are known for their lapidary skills. Both channel inlay (using precisely cut stones set on silver to form figures and designs) and cluster and needlepoint (setting small, similarly cut stones in geometric patterns) are traditional Zuni styles.
