Sterling Silver Peace Pipe Rare Genuine Turquoise Native American Hand Made Peace Pipe  253961-NC

Sterling Silver Peace Pipe Rare Genuine Turquoise Native American Hand Made Peace Pipe.

This pipe is pure Sterling Silver! Hand crafted by Navajo Indian artist Tim Yazzie. This Silver pipe is totally unique, an original and rare work of art. Cut from Sterling Silver sheet by hand, then hammered and soldered together from scratch. The artist decorated this Silver pipe with hand stamped traditional patterns, Sterling feathers and genuine sky blue Turquoise. The peace pipe is used in a variety of ceremonies. Rituals may focus on enhancing power, strength, healing, wisdom, or intuition on life's journey. This pipe is 6-1/2" long and the bowl is 1" in diameter. This one is smokeable but has never been used.

"The seeker goes forth solitary, if a man, carrying his pipe and with an offering of tobacco, and there in the wilderness, alone, he chants his song and utters his prayer while he waits, fasting, such revelation as the Powers may grant."

The term Peace Pipe is a white man's term. They were called Calumets by the Native Americans, named after Calamus - the "stalk" or "reed." It is properly referred to as the Sacred Pipe. The pipe bowl was commonly carved from hard wood, antler, molded from clay, or carved from red pipestone called Catlinite. Other stones such as Sandstone, Soapstone, hard stones such as Granite, Quartzite and Steatite were also used. The Peace Pipe has long been known by the White Man as a token of peace and treaties, used to seal an agreement. Probably, though no person knows for sure, the first time the "peace pipe" term was used was when a peace treaty was being signed. The pipe would have been used to seal the bargain, which meant an end to bitter fighting, and the white man would likely have referred to it as a pipe of peace. There are Calumets for sacred and ceremonial purposes, and public arrangements. The Sacred Pipe is not generally used for public gatherings. The intended use of a pipe could often be told by how the stem was carved or decorated with feathers. Both bowl and pipe designs may be simple or elaborate, and may be carved from stone, horn, antler, bone or wood.
