Before the invention of gunpowder, a sword, knife or blade was the most powerful hand held weapon the world had seen. No one alive today can kill and slaughter using a blade with as much efficiency and prowess that many could during the huge history before gunpowder. After the end of the Roman Empire, Medieval weapons evolved and adapted into a wide range of forms as metallurgical techniques slowly improved. While care was taken to reduce any unnecessary, inefficient, or clumsy elements; weapons of the medieval ages and renaissance took on elaborate and unique deigns and were often artfully decorated. Swords and Knives were often the most important and valued item to people throughout history and continued to be well into the age of gunpowder. |
