Pre-1920s Authentic Vintage Aniline Dyed Hand Spun Navajo Indian Mission and Chef Wool Blanket Rug - 3-1/2' x 5' 0271-RUG
Pre-1920s Authentic Vintage Aniline Dyed Hand Spun Navajo Indian Mission and Chef Wool Blanket Rug 3-1/2' x 5'.
This Authentic Vintage Navajo Indian Mission and Chief Wool Rug is a true one of a kind highly collectible piece of hand made Native American art. We estimate that this rug was made pre-1920s. It was made the traditional old fashioned way, spun by hand using an aniline dye process. Aniline is colorless, oily, slightly water-soluble liquid, used chiefly in the synthesis of dyes and drugs. This Navajo made rug was masterfully created from genuine all natural wool. And, it is in excellent condition. There's a very small amount of fraying and wear, but it is so small. This rug is just darn near perfect. The southwestern Pueblo Indian Mission and Chief design was created from white, red, gray, and black wool that was colored with dyes made from natural vegetation indigenous to the Navajo Indian reservation. This rug is a true one of a kind collectors item! This wool rug is 3-1/2' by 5'.
By far the largest category of Navajo rugs would be non-regional, sometimes called "general rugs." These rugs do not exhibit unique characteristics that allow them to be pinpointed to a specific regional trading post area. Either no design elements stand out or the style of rug was, or is, woven throughout Navajo land. While Indian arts dealers will try assign a regional attribution to almost any rug, most rugs, in fact, fall into the non-regional category. The photo at right is only one example of a non- regional Navajo rug. There are many, many designs that fall into this category.
We understand the true value and nature of hand crafted Indian art. And, we recognize it's important to know that the artist is truly a member of a Native American tribe. So, to ensure you that this is the real deal, a Certificate of Authenticity has been included with this item.
