Plains Indian BEADED BUCKSKIN BOW & ARROWS 3189
This beautiful soft leather BUCKSKIN covered bow measures 47" – it is decorated with Seed Bead Work, Feathers and Braided Buck Skin Leather. The flint tipped arrows measure 26" in length – feathers and tips are attached to the shaft with artificial sinew. Genuine leather fringes connect beads, antler pieces and large feathers to both ends of the bow. A buckskin medicine bag hangs in the middle of the arrows. A magnificent show piece for your collectible wall. Beautiful beadwork appears on the front of the bow. It was made just down the street from our trading post by some good friends of Richard's. Some of the artists can be seen in the photos. Some bows and arrows displayed are intended for wall decoration – others are functional.Indian warriors gained status not only from their success in battle, but their skills in crafting hunting tools and weapons. Typically Bow woods used are Ash, Black Locust, Black Cherry, Osage Orange, White Oak and Hickory. Arrows were made mostly from dogwood, yaupon holly, witch hazel and willow because they could be smoothed and straighten easily. Arrow points made of noviculite and obsidian were chipped with a moose and deer antler. Ceremonial rituals focused on power, strength, healing, wisdom and intuition in life's journey and use artifacts such as this bow in to connect the warrior to his spirit guides. |
