"The first peace...is that which comes within the
souls of men when they realize their [relationship]
with the universe and all its Powers...is really
everywhere, it is within each of us." (Oglala Lakota)
J.D. Challenger was set forth on his art career after he showed his paintings to a Native American holy man who told him, "Your path is to tell our story and educate others." Challenger was raised in Oklahoma where he learned to paint through his observations of nature and the customs of the Native Americans. He gathered his inspiration from the friendships he sealed with his Native American neighbors and made it his life's work to follow the words of the holy man and to tell the story of the Native Americans. |
