Navajo Genuine Turquoise & Mother of Pearl Sterling Silver Reversible Squash Blossom Necklace Earrings Set 0314-SQNK
Navajo Genuine Turquoise & Mother of Pearl Sterling Silver Reversible Squash Blossom Necklace Earrings Set.
A stunning example of the traditional beauty of Silver, Turquoise, and Mother of Pearl. This Navajo Squash Blossom is a gorgeous work of hand made Native American jewelry. It was skillfully constructed by hand out of Sterling Silver and set with hand cut cabochons of genuine Turquoise and Mother of Pearl into traditional Navajo cluster designs. The cluster designs, Naja, and earrings have Turquoise on one side and Mother of Pearl on the other making this two necklace sets in one. They were hand strung with Sterling Silver bench beads that provide a brilliant shine. This Sterling Silver Necklace is 27" long. The naja is 2-1/4" wide and 2-1/2" long so this necklace hangs like it's 29" in length. The matching hook earrings are 1-5/8" long. Stamped Sterling and signed by the Native American jeweler.
There are many legends about Turquoise; The Pima consider it to bring good fortune and strength and that it helped overcome illness. The Zuni believe that blue turquoise was male and of the sky and green turquoise was female and of the earth. Pueblo Indians thought that its color was stolen from the sky. In Hopi legend the lizard who travels between the above and the below, excretes turquoise and that the stone can hold back floods. The Apache felt that turquoise on a gun or bow made it shoot straight. The Navajo consider it as good fortune to wear and believe it could appease the Wind Spirit.
