This jewelry comes from one of the leading trading posts in the heart of the Indian Nation. Established over 35 years ago, the owners recently retired and liquidated $200,000 wholesale ($450,000 retail) of their inventory to Alltribes. They worked with some of the best Navajo and Zuni jewelers and kept to the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship. This jewelry features unique designs and quality stones. It was made before the price of silver went up and will have lower prices.
Concho belts are one of the most attractive articles of Indian Jewelry. The medallions, or plates of silver, vary in number according to size. The older type had holes in the center,
separated by a bar, through which the strap forming the belt passed. The first belts were made only of conchos with leather thongs used for fastening. Later a silver harness buckle was used, then slides of soft copper were added to attach and slide the conchos on belts, and finally elaborate buckles replaced the leather thongs and simple buckles. The use of Turquoise and other adornment on conchos date from the 1920's.
