Native American Overlaid Sterling Silver Lapis Hinged Old Pawn Concho Belt 0100-CN
Native American Overlaid Sterling Silver Lapis Hinged Old Pawn Concho Belt.
This Sterling Silver Belt is an incredible work of Navajo made art. It's a unique all-Silver old pawn belt that will knock your socks off. It's basically a large band of heavy gauge Sterling Silver that has been cut into six sections and hinged together for flexibility. Beautiful hand cut overlay wraps around the entire belt and buckle with traditional symmetry. The buckle is just one of the six sections only shorter and equipped with hooks so the band can be opened easily. Plus, it features a large royal blue cabochon of genuine Lapis. The buckle is 2-3/4" long and the remaining sections have different lengths. They are carefully contoured to fit a 29" waist perfectly. The entire belt is 2" wide. You'll definitely make a strong statement with this one! Signed by the Navajo Indian artist and stamped Sterling. It's photographed with the finish it had when we received it, if you like, it can be polished to a brilliant high shine at no extra cost.
Overlay is created by "sweating" or soldering two pieces of silver together. The top piece contains a design element which is meticulously hand cut out of silver. The bottom piece is oxidized and often textured with stamping to produce a contrasting background. Once together the work is carefully filed, buffed, and polished to produce this fine finish.
Lapis lazuli is a beautiful opaque stone ranging in color from a deep blue to denim. Lapis lazuli can be made of several minerals besides lazurite, namely sodalite, hauyne, calcite (white streaks), and pyrite (metallic streaks or flecks). Stones that are deep blue with small patches of pyrite and calcite are considered the most valuable. The ancients believed that divine favor and success came to those wearing Lapis. It was largely reserved for royalty and was highly prized by the pharaohs of ancient Egypt, as can be seen by its prominent use with gold in many of the treasures recovered from pharaonic tombs. It is still extremely popular today.
