The artist inlaid the handle of this knife with beautifully man made and stable Malachite, Coral, Jet, and Mother of Pearl and genuine Ironwood in a striking, contemporary design. Each stone of Malachite, Coral, Pearl, and Jet has been cut, carved, and shaped by hand making this a desirable collectors piece and it will stay pristine. This knife was designed and made by Navajo Indian artist Doris Yazzie from Kayenta, Arizona. She comes from the Monument Valley area and she's been making knives since 1989. Full length of the The handle of this knife is 5", the Stainless Steel blade is 5-1/4" long. Complete with a genuine leather knife sheath that is 9" long. Signed by the Navajo Indian artist DY (Doris Yazzie). A beautiful work of art to be showcased proudly.
MALACHITE comes from copper ore, thus exuding a green appearance. Its origin dates back to ancient Egypt, and, as with several other precious stones, was believed to possess magical powers. It has been found in Zaire, France, England, Rhodesia, New Mexico, and Arizona. It is rare and highly esteemed by mineral collectors. Malachite is used for making beads, carved figurines, and cabochons (cut stones). However, larger quantities have been used in certain palace walls and buildings in Russia.
