Native American Long Hair Shalako Kachina Doll 0891-1182-KD-NEW
Native American Long Hair Shalako Kachina Doll.
This is Native American Kachina art at its finest. This impressive Shalako Kachina Doll was made by Navajo Indian artist Frankie C. Nez. This Kachina Doll was made the old fashioned way. It was masterfully carved out of wood by hand. The Nez painted this one with bright and vibrant colors to help bring life to the traditional Pueblo Indian designs. Plus, this Kachina Doll has been hand etched with the perfect amount of detail giving it a sense of rich texture. This Shalako Kachina Doll is 19" tall (including the wooden base), and 5" wide. Signed by the Native American artist F. Nez. Labeled Shalako.
The Hopi Shalako towers seven or eight feet in the air, a long, shoulderless figure that bows and dips as he moves in a most graceful manner. The Hopi Shalako ceremony is held infrequently. The basic intent is probably that of bringing the cloud supernaturals to the Hopi mesa and causing them to remain in the general vicinity of the villages and fields of the tribal lands.
