Native American Genuine Turquoise Overlaid Sterling Silver Bolo Tie 2000-BOLO
Native American Genuine Turquoise Overlaid Sterling Silver Bolo Tie.
This is the way Bolo Ties were meant to be. This one combines top grade Sterling Silver overlay with number one grade genuine Sleeping Beauty Turquoise. This Bolo Tie was hand cut from Sterling Silver by master Navajo jeweler Calvin Begay - One of the best! His silver work is an absolute masterpiece of overlay. The traditional overlay design frames the beautiful Sleeping beauty Turquoise nugget and complements its sky blue hues. The Sterling Silver Bolo is 1-1/2" wide by 2-3/8" long. It comes with a complimentary 4 strand braided leather bolo cord with a total length of 40". The cord is finished with Sterling Silver bolo tips. Signed by the Navajo jewelry artist Calvin Begay and stamped Sterling. Turquoise stones may vary slightly, you will receive a one of a kind hand made bolo from the group pictured below.
Overlay is created by "sweating" or soldering two pieces of silver together. The top piece contains a design element which is meticulously hand cut out of silver. The bottom piece is oxidized and often textured with stamping to produce a contrasting background. Once together the work is carefully filed, buffed, and polished to produce this fine finish.
There are many legends about Turquoise; The Pima consider it to bring good fortune and strength and that it helped overcome illness. The Zuni believe that blue turquoise was male and of the sky and green turquoise was female and of the earth. Pueblo Indians thought that its color was stolen from the sky. In Hopi legend the lizard who travels between the above and the below, excretes turquoise and that the stone can hold back floods. The Apache felt that turquoise on a gun or bow made it shoot straight. The Navajo consider it as good fortune to wear and believe it could appease the Wind Spirit.
