This Native American Genuine Kingman Turquoise Cabochon Sterling Silver Concho Leather Belt was made in our shop by Joey and Verna. Concho Belts are the most striking pieces of Indian Jewelry. This Concho Belt has six conchos, seven butterflies, and a buckle all hand made from Sterling Silver. The Silver buckle, conchos, and butterflies have been hand stamped with traditional southwestern designs. The leather-backed buckle, conchos, and butterflies prominently feature gorgeous cabochons of genuine Kingman Turquoise. This concho belt will match perfectly with any other Silver jewelry already in your collection. The buckle is 3-5/8" by 2-1/2". Each of the conchos are 3-1/8" by 2-1/2". The butterflies are each 1-1/4" by 2-1/8". Stamped Sterling and signed with our hallmark. Concho belts are one of the most attractive articles of Indian Jewelry. The medallions, or plates of silver, vary in number according to size. The older type had holes in the center, separated by a bar, through which the strap forming the belt passed. The first belts were made only of conchos with leather thongs used for fastening. Later a silver harness buckle was used, then slides of soft copper were added to attach and slide the conchos on belts, and finally elaborate buckles replaced the leather thongs and simple buckles. The use of Turquoise and other adornment on conchos date from the 1920's.
