This Traditional Design pot is of prime quality with delicately hand coiled walls. This pot features hand painted, hand etched images of fish. This is an excellent piece of art with its symmetric lines and designs. An addition to your collection to be proud of. It is hand made and signed by the artist Hector Quintana, and stands ~10-1/4" tall, ~7" wide and the circumference is ~27-1/2" with a ~2-3/4" opening. The artist's family is featured in the book, The Many Faces of Mata Ortiz.
Technically and aesthetically, Casas Grandes pottery equals or surpasses the work of the Indian potters of the American Southwest. It is made with clay from the mountains high above the village of Mata Ortiz, painted with human hairbrushes and natural pigments (minerals and roots of plants). It is hand-formed, without the use of a potter's wheel, and is dung fired.
