Large Native American Genuine Turquoise Sterling Silver Overlay Old Pawn Cuff Bracelet.
This bracelet is an impressive work of Native American jewelry. This bold Navajo made bracelet features a cuff that was hand made from a very heavy gauge of Sterling Silver. The center of this one has been dressed with a large hand cut cabochon of genuine Turquoise. This Turquoise is full of natural character, its beautiful! The moss green and earth tone hues come alive against the brushed satin luster of the Sterling silver. A unique overlaid feather and leaf design flanks the Turquoise on either side of the cuff. Each of the feathers and leaves were hand cut individually and soldered into place within the top layer of silver to create the remarkable texture and contrast. Very heavy, sturdy, and meant to last. This bracelet is 1-5/8" wide. It'll fit a 7" to a 8" wrist. Stamped Sterling and signed by the Navajo jeweler. There are two of these old pawn bracelets, you will receive one from the group pictured below.
This jewelry comes from the Arnold Roossin Collection. Roossin owned a trading post in downtown Scottsdale for many years. He passed away recently and Richard was able to buy up his remaining collection which included rugs, kachinas, jewelry, and artwork of all kinds. These old pawn bracelets were part of that collection and were made over 30 years ago. This means they were made with high grade natural Turquoise, traditional techniques, and have classic designs.
There are many legends about Turquoise; The Pima consider it to bring good fortune and strength and believe that it helps overcome illness. The Zuni believe that blue turquoise was male and of the sky and green turquoise was female and of the earth. Pueblo Indians thought that its color was stolen from the sky. In Hopi legend the lizard who travels between the above and the below, excretes turquoise and that the stone can hold back floods. The Apache felt that turquoise on a gun or bow made it shoot straight. The Navajo consider it as good fortune to wear and believe it could appease the Wind Spirit.
