MATA ORTIZ HAND COILED INDIAN POTTERY # 7280 -pot
A TRUE PIECE OF ART! RICHARD SAYS THIS ONE IS A KEEPER!
AN ART LOVERS DELIGHT ! It is amazing how they can sit there and hand etch these pots perfectly without any pre-planning or measuring tools. This is not a paint by numbers pot! This is truly top of the line pottery. This incredible pottery has been made from natural clays found in the earth. The clay was then soaked in water until it reached a workable consistency. The clay is then worked and hand coiled. The artist then hand etches traditional designs into the walls. The pot is then wood fired and masterfully painted by hand.
This is a one of a kind! This is a very desirable design from Casas Grandes Valley. Fine pottery such as this is distinguished by its unique beauty and balance. This traditional designed pot is of prime quality with it's delicately hand coiled walls. It features hand painted, hand etched images, with a unusual texture circling the top of the pot making this an excellent piece of art with its symmetric lines and designs. An addition to your collection to be proud of. It is hand made and signed by the Mata Ortiz Artist Daniel Gonzalez , and it stands ~ 10 1/4 " tall , ~ 8 3/4 " wide and the circumference is ~ 35 1/2 " with a ~ 5 1/2 " opening.
Technically and aesthetically, Casas Grandes pottery equals or surpasses the work of the Indian potters of the American Southwest. It is made with clay from the mountains high above the village of Mata Ortiz, painted with human hairbrushes and natural pigments (minerals and roots of plants). It is hand-formed, without the use of a potter's wheel, and then it is dung fired.
For centuries, the Indian people of the Southwest have fashioned their pots from the native clay and baked them beneath the fiery desert sun. Today, we are proud to offer you these hand-etched, hand-coiled , clay pots . Each intricate line has been painted onto the clay by hand.
Typical of Mata Ortiz Pottery, this incredibly detailed pot is an example of Casa Grandes Art at its very finest. True Mata Ortiz traditional designs and colors, looks perfect in every way.
