The workmanship is perfect and intricate. Most Nepal rugs have over 100 hand made knots in a single inch. This one was made from 100% genuine Wool and it was colored with natural dyes made from vegetation gathered from the earth. This rug is 3' by 5'. Don't miss out on this one!
The Nepal rug has its origins in the high mountainous country of and near Tibet. The people used natural wools that were indigenous to that land to make their incredible, high quality rugs. The marketing of the Nepal rugs were limited to only a domestic market. The Chinese take over of Tibet caused many of the Tibetan rug makers to leave the country due to the Buddhist nature of their craft. Then the Swiss Agency for Technical Assistance gave support to the Tibetan refugees allowing them the capability to create their traditional Nepal rugs. Then in 1964, the first shipment of exported Nepal rugs left Switzerland and became some of the most commercially successful rugs on the market. |
