This is an impressive example of Hopi artistry. It comes from the Four Corners/ Tuba City area of Arizona near the third mesa of Hopi Land. This traditional, Hopi Indian made White Ogre Kachina Doll has been captured in a traditional pose. This incredible Kachina Doll was made the old fashioned way, hand carved out of genuine cottonwood root. It was masterfully hand painted with traditional designs. The case mask has the traditional look with the traditional white ogre design. This great White Ogre Kachina Doll is 13-1/4" tall (including the wooden base) and 5" wide. Signed by the Hopi Indian artist Bert Roy. Labeled Monster Man. Bert Roy is a skilled Hopi Kachina carver and he is the brother to famed Kachina carver Coolidge Roy. The White Ogre Kachina is known as a boogey man because he is known to eat bad children in one bite. You know he's coming when you hear him dragging the blade of his knife against the boards on the wall. Parents tell tales of the white ogre to keep their bad children in good behavior.
