We will not be making any more like this. It a true one of a kind. Not long ago someone sent us a photo of a concho belt from the Ralph Lauren catalog asking us to make one just like it. Well, this is what we came up with and it came out much nicer. This Concho Belt features six conchos and a buckle all hand cut, hand stamped, and die struck from 12K Gold Fill. This Navajo Indian Concho Belt features gorgeous hand cut cabochons of genuine Sleeping Beauty Turquoise. The sky blues and gold shine compliment each other beautifully. Made in our shop by Navajo artists Verna Blackgoat and Joey McCray. The buckle and leather-backed conchos are about 3" by 3-1/2". Stamped 12KGF and signed by the Navajo artist. The leather belt can be cut to fit. Send us your size.
Concho belts are one of the most striking articles of Indian Jewelry. The medallions or plates of silver vary in number according to size. The older type had holes in the center, separated by a bar, through which was passed the strap forming the belt. The first belts were made only of concho's, with leather thongs used for fastening. Later a silver harness buckle was used, then slides of soft copper were used to attach and slide the concho's on belts and finally elaborate buckles replaced the leather thongs and simple buckles. The use of turquoise and other adornment on concho's date from the 1920's.
