Signed with the Navajo artists' hallmark. The Sleeping Beauty mine is located near Globe, Arizona. Its turquoise is noted for its solid, light blue color with no matrix. Sleeping Beauty turquoise is the favorite of the Zuni Pueblo silversmiths for use in petit point, needlepoint, and inlay jewelry. This mine is one of the largest in North America and is still operating. The Navajo believe turquoise is a piece of the sky that has fallen to earth, and it is used as an offering to appease the wind. The Apache think it combines the spirits of the sea and sky to help warriors and hunters aim accurately. For the Apache, turquoise is associated with the bringing of rain and could always be found at the end of a rainbow. The Zuni believe that turquoise protects them from demons, while the Aztecs reserved turquoise for the gods and it was not to be worn by mere mortals. We understand the true value and nature of hand crafted Indian art. And, we recognize that it is important to know that the artist is truly a member of a Native American tribe.
