Genuine Hopi Indian Eagle Kachina Doll by Native American artist N Bert 253752-MKD
Genuine Hopi Indian Eagle Kachina Doll by Native American artist N Bert.
This Eagle Kachina Doll was made by Hopi artist N Bert, cousin of well-known carver Milton Howard. The detail is exceptional. From the fine lines of the feather work, the beaded look in the jewelry to the carving of his knuckles. The time and effort and talent is evident with every stroke of this carver. Stain brings out the natural wood grain of the customary cottonwood root, and paint brings the character to life. He takes the time, and the patience it demands, to feature and enhance every tiny detail line, as is the tradition. This Hopi Indian Eagle Kachina Doll is 14-1/2" tall, 12-1/2" wide and 6-1/2" long. Signed - N Bert. Free Shipping does not apply to his item. Shipping for this item is $25.00, this is to ensure it arrives unbroken. Please allow up to two weeks for delivery.
N Bert, master kachina carver, was born in Tuba City, Arizona on the Navajo-Hopi reservation. His father, also a kachina carver, is from the Third Mesa area, and his mother is from the Rocky Ridge area. He is married and has three children. He took up carving as a young boy, learning from other members of his family, but he was not serious about it until he was living in Albuquerque, in his early twenties, going to school to be an electrician and carving with his cousins, Jerry and Dan Bert, in his free time. He sold his dolls to his classmates, carving kachinas for orders only. At about 30 years of age he made the decision to start carving full time. His art is now found in the finest galleries around the world and because his work is extraordinary and his prices are so reasonable, many serious collectors have obtained his dolls. The intricate details symbolize a lot of his beliefs, and what he has come to know as very sacred and divine to his culture.
