Genuine Coral Cluster Necklace Sterling Silver Native American Old Pawn Jewelry.

This Navajo made Sterling Silver and Coral Cluster Necklace is absolutely ravishing. This necklace has a traditional southwestern Native American cluster design that was made from hand cut cabochons of genuine Coral. Each fiery cab of this Coral has been set in a hand cut bezel of Sterling Silver that was soldered to a hand cut Sterling Silver sheet. Hand twisted Sterling Silver wires and hand made Sterling Silver arches have been included for extra traditional detail. Sterling Silver dangles artfully hang from the bottom of the centerpiece providing an eye-catching movement and shimmer. This old pawn Coral Necklace includes a hand made box link chain for complete flexibility and has been given a high shine. The total length is 23-1/2". The centerpiece is 3-1/2" long making this necklace hang like its 26" in length. Stamped Sterling. There are 3 of these old pawn coral necklaces, you will receive one from the group pictured below.

This jewelry is from the Arnold Roossin Collection. Roossin owned a trading post in downtown Scottsdale for many years. He passed away recently and Richard was able to buy up his remaining collection which included rugs, kachinas, jewelry, and artwork of all kinds. These old pawn necklaces were part of that collection and were made before the 1970's, meaning they were made with traditional methods and high grade Coral which is very rare today.

There are several types of precious coral. Although Red corals are most common in jewelry, coral can be found naturally in a variety of colors including blacks and golds. Coral is produced in warm, shallow coastal areas by tiny marine animals and can be found in many places. Jewelry grade coral usually comes from the Mediterranean Sea, Hawaii, or China and is increasingly rare due to large efforts to protect the worlds Coral Reefs. Coral is known to be used as a gem since prehistoric times and has gained a reputation for having powers of healing and protection. Red coral was believed to change color according to one's health, but only if the stone was not fashioned by man. Strings of coral were considered a gift of royal proportion in parts of Africa. It was also popular as a gem in the Egyptian and Roman empires who believed in its curative powers.
