Elvis Belt Navajo Indian Genuine Turquoise Cabochon Silver Concho Belt by Emerson.
A little less conversation, a little more action! This belt was inspired by a belt worn by Elvis Presley. A French Elvis impersonator designed this belt from a picture of Elvis. The spirit of the King is embodied by this sensational belt. It showcases cabochons of genuine Turquoise. The Turquoise is set on seven conchos and eight butterflies each hand cut from nickel silver for a high shine that won't tarnish. The traditional hand stamped designs are full of character. The buckle is 3-1/2" by 3". The conchos are 3" by 3-7/8", the butterflies are 2-7/8" by 1-3/4" and they're all leather backed. This belt is 100% hand made. Stamped handmade and signed by the Navajo artist Jimmy Emerson with our hallmark. The item pictured below is the hand made belt you will receive.
The last picture shows Elvis wearing this belt with a black Cossack two-piece in 1969. Most suits Elvis wore on stage during the period 1969 - 1977 had original custom-made belts. One of his favorites came from his personal wardrobe; the "Metal Concho Belt". You might recognize this belt from the rehearsal scenes in "Elvis - That's The Way It Is".
There are many legends about Turquoise; The Pima consider it to bring good fortune and strength and believe that it helps overcome illness. The Zuni believe that blue turquoise was male and of the sky and green turquoise was female and of the earth. Pueblo Indians thought that its color was stolen from the sky. In Hopi legend the lizard who travels between the above and the below, excretes turquoise and that the stone can hold back floods. The Apache felt that turquoise on a gun or bow made it shoot straight. The Navajo consider it as good fortune to wear and believe it could appease the Wind Spirit.
