Elvis Belt Navajo Indian Genuine Sleeping Beauty Turquoise Silver Concho Belt by Emerson.
A little less conversation, a little more action! This belt was inspired by a favorite belt worn by Elvis Presley. The spirit of the King is embodied by this sensational belt. It showcases specially selected nuggets of genuine Sleeping Beauty Turquoise, highly sought after for its vibrant sky blues. The Turquoise is set on six conchos and seven butterflies each hand cut from nickel silver for a high shine that won't tarnish. The traditional hand stamped designs are full of character. The buckle is 4" wide by 3" tall. The conchos are 3" by 2-1/2", the butterflies are 2-1/2" by 1-1/4" and they're all leather backed. Stamped handmade and signed by the Navajo artist Jimmy Emerson. Turquoise stones may vary slightly from belt to belt. The item pictured below is an example of the hand made belt you will receive.
The last picture shows Elvis wearing this belt with a black Cossack two-piece in 1969. Most suits Elvis wore on stage during the period 1969 – 1977 had original custom-made belts. One of his favorites came from his personal wardrobe; the “Metal Concho Belt”. You might recognize this belt from the rehearsal scenes in “Elvis - That’s The Way It Is”.
There are many legends about Turquoise; The Pima consider it to bring good fortune and strength and believe that it helps overcome illness. The Zuni believe that blue turquoise was male and of the sky and green turquoise was female and of the earth. Pueblo Indians thought that its color was stolen from the sky. In Hopi legend the lizard who travels between the above and the below, excretes turquoise and that the stone can hold back floods. The Apache felt that turquoise on a gun or bow made it shoot straight. The Navajo consider it as good fortune to wear and believe it could appease the Wind Spirit.
