This Amethyst Gemstone Pendant and Necklace set is a sensational set of jewelry that's highly elegant and fashionable. This brilliant pendant has been finely hand made out of Sterling Silver and set with gorgeous Amethyst gemstones. It is beautifully stamped and pattered. The hand strung beaded necklace includes faceted Amethyst beads and Sterling Silver bench beads. Suspended from the 18" necklace, this fine Pendant is 3" long including the bail. Made in our shop, stamped Sterling and Signed by the Navajo artist Verna Blackgoat.

Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz and is a popular gemstone. If it were not for its widespread availability, amethyst would be very expensive. The name "amethyst" comes from the Greek and means "not drunken." This was maybe due to a belief that amethyst would ward off the effects of alcohol, but most likely the Greeks were referring to the almost wine-like color of some stones that they may have encountered. Although it must always be purple to be amethyst, it can and does have a wide range of purple shades.
